Chips, cracks, worn fillings, and gaps rarely announce themselves politely. They show up as a jolt of sensitivity to cold, a rough edge your tongue keeps finding, or a bite that feels slightly off. Restorative dentistry repairs or replaces damaged teeth so chewing, speaking, and smiling feel normal again.

At Newport Beach Dental Center, Dr. Laura Sharbash, DDS, FAGD, D.ABDSM, and our team build restorative care around keeping as much natural tooth as possible. We welcome Fountain Valley patients at our office roughly 10 miles away, with treatment that is gentle, thorough, and clearly explained.

What Does Restorative Dentistry Include?

Restorative care covers a range of treatments, and the right one depends on how much of the tooth is damaged. Some repairs take a single visit, while others unfold over a few appointments, and we tell you which to expect before we begin. These are the services we use most.

Tooth-colored fillings
Repair cavities with material that blends into the surrounding enamel.
Onlays
Repair teeth that are too damaged for a filling but do not yet need a full crown.
Cover and protect a weakened tooth, with same-day options available.
Fixed replacements that close the gap left by a missing tooth.
Saves a tooth when the inside has become infected.

When damage is widespread, full mouth reconstruction rebuilds worn or broken teeth as one coordinated plan. If a tooth cannot be saved, our dental implants in Fountain Valley are placed and restored by the same team.

Why Does Early Treatment Matter?

Small problems have a habit of growing quietly, and the national numbers show how common they are.

20.5%
of dentate U.S. adults ages 20 to 64 had at least one untreated decayed permanent tooth, according to CDC surveillance data for 2017 to March 2020

Decay that starts as a small cavity usually calls for a simple filling. Left alone, it can spread toward the nerve, and the repair can grow into a crown or a root canal. Regular exams let us catch cracks and worn fillings before they hurt, which keeps treatment smaller and easier on your budget.

What Is the Biomimetic Approach to Repairs?

Biomimetic dentistry restores teeth so they behave like natural ones. Dr. Sharbash chooses materials and techniques that replicate the strength and flexibility of real enamel and dentin, and she removes only the tooth structure that cannot be saved.

Save what can be saved, and restore only what cannot.
How we approach every repair

That often means a conservative repair in place of a crown. Our guide on how biomimetic dentistry saves teeth explains what that looks like in practice.

How Do Same-Day Crowns Work?

When a crown is the right answer, CEREC technology lets us finish it in our office instead of sending impressions to an outside lab.

1
Scan
A digital scan captures your tooth without messy impression material.
2
Design
Your crown is designed on-screen to fit your bite.
3
Mill
A single block of high-quality ceramic is milled in our office.
4
Place
Most patients leave the same day with a finished, permanent crown.

For busy Fountain Valley patients, one visit instead of two means less time away from work and family. Our same-day crowns and bridges page has more detail.

What Should You Expect at Your First Visit?

We start by listening, then we look. Digital X-rays, 3D scans, and intraoral imaging let you see what we see, which makes the conversation about your options clearer and less rushed. We outline your choices in plain language and recommend only what your teeth need.

Our office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. If you are nervous about treatment, tell us when you book, and we will talk through comfort options before we begin.

Does Insurance Cover Restorative Care?

Many PPO plans cover part of restorative treatment, and we work with Delta Dental. Our team verifies your benefits before treatment begins, so the numbers are clear upfront. For costs insurance does not cover, financing is available through CareCredit and Cherry.

Coverage differs from plan to plan, so questions about your benefits are always welcome before you commit to anything.
